My advice would be to get your hands on Liber AL vel Legis first.

The Book of Lies is always good for a laugh, and then a cry, and then another laugh...

If you REALLY want to dive in and drink deeply try to get your hands on "Magick" also known as "Liber ABA".
      It's a wealth of material.

If you're looking for a good bio of the man "Perdurabo The Life of Aleister Crowley" by Richard Kaczynski is recommended.

      Etc.....

Liber AL vel Legis first? have a little sympathy. granted that I'm probably a barbarian and had a hard time digesting any meaningful percentage of that one.

Liber AL is the root of Thelema after all... ;)

If you want to read some of Crowley's personal insight into Thelema's most Holy of the Holy books you can always pick up a copy of "The Law is for All" by New Falcon Publications.

Besides, it doesn't all have to make sense RIGHT NOW does it?
          Remember those damn Onion Peelings....

Half the fun for me is realizing things down the road after I'd "ripened" a bit.
That way I can tell that it's really working. ;)

            93 ALL,

            Beginning Frater Perdurabo writings?

            The list;

            1. The Holy Books Of Thelema (This one purchase will be your best bet to gain full insight into mind and spirit and cut out having to buy other books till you decide you want to possess them in your library. Those who know Thelema, know that one does not readily mention certain titles, and does so at ones on peril. Read COMMENT, ANKH-F-NKHONSU)...Laff at your peril?

            2. 777 (Aleisters Qabala)

            3. Book 4 (Very helpful with meditation and various other things.

            4. Moonchild (A bit of fictional writing as a diversion)

            5. Book of Thoth (This is hard for a lot of people to follow, so don't feel bad if you feel a bit lost. Eventually, it will come)

*6. If you are wanting to study Thelema, you must also get "The Golden Dawn", by Israel Regardie.

The Book of Lies is good, from a comical standpoint, and as a way into the mind of Aleister. It is a good way to help your mind work in a way that will later be used when that thought process may be most crucial to full understanding of the text which lies before you.

Icky and Jester's lists have summed it up nicely...and don't despair at first if you feel utterly pissed and perplexed by Crowley. He's a roller coaster ride of top-notch scholarship, mediocre poetry, apalling egotism, and a brilliant effin' magician.
And keep at it--I'm STILL getting relevant stuff out of his writings, even after years of reading. "Onion Peelings" indeed...
